In pain right now? Three steps

  1. Call or walk in

Call (813) 820-0071 or come in during office hours (Mon–Fri, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm). Emergencies get priority. After hours, the same number is our after-hours line.

  2. Protect the tooth

Follow the simple first-aid steps below — rinse gently, use a cold compress for swelling, and keep any broken pieces or a lost crown.

  3. Bring three things

Your insurance or Medicare Advantage card, a list of your medications, and a photo ID.

What counts as a dental emergency?

If it hurts, it's broken, or it's swelling, call us. Common reasons people call:

  • Cracked, chipped, or broken tooth — even if it doesn't hurt yet, a crack can spread.
  • Toothache — throbbing pain, pain when you bite, or sensitivity that lingers after hot or cold.
  • Swelling or a pimple-like bump on the gum — often a sign of infection that needs to be treated quickly.
  • Lost filling or crown — the tooth underneath is exposed and can break or decay.
  • A knocked-out or loose tooth — time matters; call right away.
  • Something stuck between your teeth that floss won't remove.
  • A broken denture, bridge, or partial — we do denture repairs and relines.

Not sure if it's an emergency? Call (813) 820-0071 and describe what's happening. We'll tell you what to expect in plain language.

Dental emergency or medical emergency?

Go to the ER or call 911 if swelling is making it hard to breathe or swallow, if you have a high fever with facial swelling, if bleeding after an injury won't stop, or if you have a serious injury to your face, head, or jaw. For everything else — broken teeth, toothaches, lost crowns — call us first.

What to do before you arrive

  • Broken or cracked tooth: Rinse gently with warm water. Save any pieces in a clean container and bring them. A cold compress on the cheek helps with swelling.
  • Toothache: Rinse with warm water and gently floss to remove any trapped food. Don't put aspirin directly on the gum.
  • Lost filling or crown: Keep the crown and bring it with you. Chew on the other side and avoid very hot, cold, or sticky food.
  • Swelling: Use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek, 15–20 minutes at a time. Don't apply heat.
  • Knocked-out tooth: Hold it by the crown (the top), not the root. Rinse it gently — don't scrub. Keep it moist in milk and call us immediately.

How we treat it

  • A real exam, not a quick look. We look for the cause of the pain, not just the symptom, and explain every finding in plain language.
  • Costs in writing before treatment. You get a written plan with costs — including your estimated insurance share — before anything begins.
  • Gentler numbing. The Wand numbs just the tooth being treated, without a traditional shot — no numb lip or half-face for the rest of the day.
  • Saving the tooth when we can. Depending on the damage, that may mean a tooth-colored filling, bonding, a crown, or a root canal. If a tooth can't be saved, we'll explain why and remove it gently.
  • One dentist, one office. You see Dr. Hafsa — no rotating providers. She'll be the one who follows up, too.

Emergency dentist FAQ

Can I be seen today?

In most cases, yes. Walk-ins are welcome and dental emergencies get priority, or call (813) 820-0071 — we can usually see you for a complete exam the same day.

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome during office hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm), and dental emergencies get priority.

Are you open on weekends?

No. The office is closed Saturday and Sunday. For a dental emergency at night or on the weekend, call (813) 820-0071 — it is also our after-hours line.

What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

Hold it by the crown (the top), not the root. Rinse it gently without scrubbing, keep it moist in milk, and call (813) 820-0071 immediately.

How much will an emergency visit cost?

It depends on what your tooth needs. After your exam, you get a written treatment plan with costs — and your estimated insurance share — before any work begins.

Will it hurt?

We use The Wand, which numbs only the tooth being treated without a traditional shot, and laser dentistry for many procedures, which usually means less pain and bleeding. Dr. Hafsa is known for putting anxious patients at ease.

Do you accept my insurance for emergency care?

We're in-network with most major PPOs, select HMOs, and many Medicare Advantage plans. Call with your card and we'll verify your coverage.

I'm a new patient. Can I still come in for an emergency?

Yes. We're accepting new patients. You can fill out your forms before you arrive or come 15 minutes early.
