Laser dentistry

A dental laser is a beam of concentrated light that can do many jobs a drill or scalpel used to do — usually with less pain, less bleeding, and more of your natural tooth left in place.

What can a laser be used for?

Lasers have been used safely in dentistry for decades. At our office, a laser may be used to:

  • Remove decay before a filling, often saving more of the healthy tooth
  • Treat gum disease and gently reshape gums damaged by gingivitis
  • Remove bacteria during root canal treatment
  • Take a small tissue sample during an oral cancer screening
  • Ease the pain of canker sores and remove small mouth lesions
  • Speed up the results of professional teeth whitening

The Wand — single-tooth numbing without a traditional shot

If you dread needles, The Wand is for you. It's a small computer-guided device that slowly and gently numbs only the tooth being treated — most patients say they don't feel a thing.

How is this better than a regular shot?
  • Much more comfortable than a traditional syringe — the anesthetic drips in slowly, which is what prevents the sting
  • Numbs just the tooth being worked on, for about an hour
  • No numb lip, tongue, or half of your face for the rest of the day
  • You can go straight back to your day — talk, smile, and eat normally sooner
  • Lets us treat teeth on both sides of your lower jaw in one visit
  • Less anxiety before and during your appointment

Digital X-rays & intra-oral cameras

Digital X-rays use about 90% less radiation than old-style film X-rays, and the images appear instantly on a screen. A small intra-oral camera lets you see your own teeth the way we do — so nothing about your treatment plan is a mystery.
